Our People Are the Heart of Gertrude’s
For over 79 years, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has been dedicated to caring for children. But the institution you see today was not built by infrastructure or technology — it was built by people.
- By nurses who stay beyond their shifts to comfort anxious families.
- By doctors who continuously deepen their expertise to deliver the best outcomes.
- By teams who improve systems so every child receives timely, quality care.
- By leaders who invest in people — not just positions.
- This is the culture of Gertrude’s — and it defines our Employee Value Proposition.
Our People Speak — Voices From the Gertrude's Team
”I have been a nurse at Gertrude's for seven years, and I can honestly say that I have never stopped learning. The exposure here is unlike anything I experienced in my training. In a single shift, I might care for a premature infant in the neonatal unit, support a family through a difficult oncology review, and assist with a procedure in the resuscitation bay. It is challenging genuinely challenging but the support from the team is always there.
~~Paediatric Nurse
”When I joined Gertrude's as a medical officer, I knew I wanted to specialise in paediatric surgery but I wasn't sure the path was possible within Kenya. What I didn't expect was how much the hospital would invest in making it happen. My consultants mentored me with real commitment. I was given exposure to a breadth of surgical cases that built my confidence and my competence in ways that a textbook never could. The institution supported my fellowship application, provided reference letters, and maintained contact with me throughout my training abroad. When I returned as a specialist, coming back to Gertrude's was the only choice I wanted to make. This hospital gave me my career.
